The idea of Red Cross was carried out during the battle of Solferino, Italy (1859). 40,000 men either died or were left wounded with no medical help, a man named Henry Dunant organised a group of locals to care for the wounded soldiers. Four years later, Dunant and four others set up the International Committee of the Red Cross (or the ICRC for short). The Red Cross logo is the inverse of the Swiss flag, it was made alongside the ICRC.

In 1864, twelve governments selected the very first Geneva Convention. This was a milestone, as it defined medical services as "neutral" on the battlefield. Today, the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) protects the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict, Red Cross has 190 branches worldwide and is getting known to more and more people.

Red Cross also does education programs at local high schools across the globe. They are well known for helping refugees in many ways, just to name a few they help refugees find a job, start up a business, help them settle down, and donate goods to them.

The New Zealand government recognizes the work the Red Cross has done in the world and thanks them. This does not come as a surprise as they've helped in just about every major war (including WW1, WW2 and the Syrian Civil War) by giving the combatants the supplies they needed. Red Cross is also helping people affected in ongoing wars. In the Syrian Civil War they have helped by supplying refugees with clothes, homes and food.

Red Cross is still looking for volunteers *cough* they have 97 million *cough*. That should not stop you from helping them in Syria!..wait you're primary school students. Well then! This paragraph has no use.

And, cut! Phew, that was exhausting. Anyway, we're going to get a cappuccino but before we go we would just like to end this blog. We hope we have educated you about the Red Cross and we encourage you to donate/fundraise for them.
